You didn’t mention that it’s only free if, in addition to owning a Kindle (not the Kindle app on your Android or iPhone, the actual Kindle device, which is not supported officially in Malaysia), you have sign up for Amazon Prime (30-day trial, thereafter US$79/year).
I did not mention about Amazon Prime because it is a separate program where members can borrow books for free (please read the terms on Amazon).
Free books (and there are literally dozens every day) are free for all (you do not have to be a Prime member), and can be downloaded to any Kindle device or App on iPad. I know a few Malaysians who have done this i.e. downloaded the free books onto their iPad or Kindle device that they bought from US or UK.
